What is Home Watch?

Front of home in West Port

“Home Watch is a visual inspection of a home or property, looking for obvious issues” Official National Home Watch Association definition of Home Watch

Homes are meant to be lived in. When you’re not home for an extended period, little things can turn into big things. No one can prevent everything from happening, but West Port Home Watch will help you be aware far sooner. For example, a small, undetected leak may lead to expensive repairs of rotting wood or mold breakout. A broken window may be from an intruder, or an object thrown up from a lawnmower. In either case, repairs are required as soon as practical to keep weather and animals from getting inside.

A West Port Home Watch inspection starts with the exterior and includes hard surfaces such as driveways, walks, lanais, and walls, plus windows, water spigots, doors, pool cages, and screened areas. We are looking for pest or rodent damage, bird or insect nests, declining landscape, decaying wood and other problems.  We look at the pool and equipment. We’re not the pool service, but we check the color and cleanliness of the water and look for obvious problems with the equipment.

After the exterior, we go into the interior to check the sinks, toilets, baths, and showers for obvious leaks and or other issues. We open the electrical panel to spot tripped circuits, check the HVAC filter, and the water heater. We examine all observable walls and ceilings for visible signs of water leaks or the presence of insects. We check all doors and windows to make sure they are locked and secure.

A date-stamped report with pictures is sent to your email and is also available on your portal. It includes a list of all items checked along with the status and pictures of issues that may arise.
